An unidentified person hurled a hand grenade at the office of a local newspaper office in Imphal Saturday evening. Fortunately, the explosive did not explode.

Denouncing the latest threat to the media house, All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) and Editors’ Guild Manipur (EGM) convened an emergency meeting at Manipur Press Club.

Reports said that the unidentified wearing a helmet and covering his/her face with a face mask hurled the Chinese hand grenade at the office of the Poknapham daily at Keishampat, Imphal this evening, around 6.30 pm. The grenade that did not explode was recovered by a team of police who rushed to the media house on being informed.

The reports said that the person came on a two-wheeler with no registration plate and he/she immediately left the spot after hurling the hand grenade toward the media house.
The hand grenade landed at the corridor of the office just near the main door.

The media house was yet to know the motive behind the bomb threat. Police have reportedly initiated an investigation to establish the attacker as well as the motive behind the bomb threat to media houses in Imphal.

Soon after the failed bomb attack, members of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) and Editors’ Guild Manipur (EGM) converged at Manipur Press Club to convene an emergency meeting and discussed the latest threat to the media in Manipur. The meeting decided not to publish newspapers on Saturday. That means there will be no Sunday edition in the state.
