Manipur witnesses highest single-day COVID-19 case spike

IMPHAL: Manipur recorded the highest single-day spike of Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, even as the state government intensifies its sample testing drive.

The state recorded 270 fresh cases of COVID-19 in 24 hours, according to Tuesday’s COVID-19 status update. The confirmed fresh cases included 56 personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF).

Again, of the 214 fresh cases, 205 of them were locals who have no recent significant travel history even though nine of them are returnees from other states. 

Of the 205 fresh cases from the local population, Imphal East district alone shared 100 while Imphal West district, the worst affected district, reported 54 new cases.

Of the rest, 29 case are from Thoubal, three from Tengnoupal, six from Bishnupur, seven from Kakching, three from Chandel, one from Kangpokpi, five from Churachandpur, four from Tamenglong district and one each from Kamjong and Senapati districts.

Meanwhile, 49 patients were discharged on Tuesday after they recovered from the disease. A CAPF personnel was among the discharged cases.

Meanwhile, with the death of an 82-year-old man from Imphal West district at JNIMS hospital, the fatality toll due to COVID-19 also rose to 60 in the state.

It can be noted here that the total cases of the disease in the state has reached 9280.  Among them, 2333 including 346 Central security force personnel are active cases as the recovered tally reached 6887.
