Ukhrul: Chungren Koren, also known as “The Indian Rhino,” has claimed another championship title at the Noida Indoor Stadium in Delhi during Matrix Fight Night 15, 2024. The reigning star successfully defended his MFN Men’s Interim Bantamweight Championship title with a victory over Kantharaj Agasa at the MFN 15 event held on August 31st, hosted by the Shroff family.
The 26-year-old MFN star dominated the veteran fighter Kantharaj Agasa, who has extensive international fighting experience, with a style that blends Judo and wrestling. Chungren’s strategic maneuvers and clean shots from the opening bell led to a one-sided match. In round 2 of 5, at 2 minutes and 46 seconds, Marc Goddard blew the finishing whistle, declaring Chungren the champion of the MFN 15 Championship. The reigning star leveraged his experience to control the pace and set the tone inside the ring, earning him the champion’s belt.

Chungren Koren, hailing from Manipur, has had a humble journey, with 15 years of hard work. He captured the hearts of millions with his victory speech earlier this year on March 22, after winning the MFN Interim Bantamweight Championship, where he addressed the Prime Minister of India, “Modiji,” pleading for peace in his home state of Manipur.
The MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) fighter is at the peak of his career, currently ranked 56th out of 1,117 active Asia Pacific Pro Bantamweights and 3rd out of 109 active Asia South Pro Bantamweights. With his prowess and credentials, “The Indian Rhino” is poised for more championship titles for his state and country.
Chungreng Koren reputation took to limelight when he requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit his home state Manipur roiled in violence to usher in peace and normalcy. Chungreng to his credit, who was crowned the new Interim MFN Bantamweight champion at MFN 14, standing at the octagon had then said, “This is my humble request to visit Manipur to end the ongoing violence. People are dying and suffering in relief camps without proper food and drinking water. The children are not able to study properly and the future of the people is uncertain.”
