IMPHAL: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said that the very idea of Manipur is founded on the unity and coexistence of diverse communities.
The Chief Minister said this while attending the “Commemoration of Kangla Attack” (Anglo Manipur War-1891) held at Bir Tikendrajit Park (Pheidabung) in Imphal on Tuesday.
While addressing the gathering, Yumnam Khemchand Singh recalled that, during different phases of Manipur’s history, the 36 communities have been living together. He emphasised that “we should uphold the values of oneness and unity for a peaceful and a developed state”.

Concluding his remarks, the Chief Minister stressed that unity is strength, and urged all to preserve and instil the sense of unity among ourselves.
The Chief Minister led other dignitaries in paying floral tributes and a 2-minute silence was also observed condoling the martyrs, freedom fighters and “unsung heroes”.
The function organised by the Justice Committee on Anglo Manipuri War-1891 Martyr & Freedom Fighters Manipur was attended by representatives of various communities within and outside the State, and students among others, an official statement said.
