IMPHAL: The Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi (LNKR) or Liangmai Student Union, has expressed its deep concern and strong condemnation of the unfortunate incident that occurred on March 21 at Thonglang Naga village, Zaimeng Lake, reportedly involving Kuki armed militants operating under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) arrangement with the Government of India.
The LNKR said this incident raised serious questions regarding the effective implementation and monitoring of the SoO framework, which is fundamentally intended to ensure peace, stability, and mutual trust. It added that any deviation from these objectives undermines public confidence and threatens the fragile harmony in the region.

The acts of violence, intimidation, and disruption caused to innocent civilians are deeply regrettable and call for immediate attention, the Liangmai student body said. The LNKR then emphasized that the rights of indigenous communities, including their land and security, must be protected at all times.
While the Naga community has consistently demonstrated patience and restraint in the interest of peace, it is imperative that such goodwill is met with responsibility and accountability from all sides, the LNKR added.

In light of the above, the LNKR urged the concerned authorities to conduct a prompt and impartial inquiry into the incident. It also urged the concerned authorities to ensure accountability of those responsible and to strengthen monitoring mechanisms under the SoO agreement, and then to take necessary measures to prevent recurrence.
The Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi then said it “remains committed to constructive engagement, peaceful coexistence, and the promotion of lasting stability in the region”.
