SENAPATI: The Mao Students’ Union (MSU) has expressed sincere appreciation and heartfelt gratitude to chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh and the Council of Ministers of Manipur for granting in-principle approval to establish a Government Medical College at Senapati.
The proposed institution will have an annual intake of 100 MBBS students and will involve upgrading the Senapati District Hospital to meet the infrastructure and clinical requirements of a functioning medical college. The MSU has described the decision as historic, calling it a major milestone for the people of Senapati district and the surrounding region.
In its statement, the union thanked the state government for giving serious consideration to what it called a long-standing aspiration of the local population. It noted that the project addresses not just a developmental gap but a pressing need, one that has been raised by residents for years.

The MSU said the medical college is expected to strengthen healthcare delivery in the district, open up new avenues for medical education for local students, and contribute more broadly to the district’s overall growth and development.
The union also commended the Chief Minister and members of the Cabinet for their commitment and foresight in approving the project, describing it as an important step forward for the region. It expressed hope that the government would move swiftly to implement the college and ensure it operates at its full intended capacity, so that the people of Senapati and neighbouring areas can benefit at the earliest.
