UKHRUL: Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari has directed the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to give priority to National Highway 202 and National Highway 102A in Manipur.
This was conveyed after a meeting with Gadkari on Wednesday, during which the poor condition of NH-202 and NH-102A and the delays in the construction of several stretches were brought to his attention.
Sources privy to Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah on Tuesday said Gadkari expressed concern over the delay in handing over land to the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), particularly for the Ukhrul Bypass and the Shangshak-Tengnoupal sectors. He also took note of the High Court intervention concerning the Lower Hungpung-Choithar stretch of NH-202 and the Shangshak-Tengnoupal stretch of NH-102A.

According to sources, Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah raised these issues as he called on union minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday, highlighting that the delays in addressing them have affected road construction and caused continued hardship to the people.
Following the discussion, Gadkari advised the secretary, MoRTH, to give priority to NH-202 and NH-102A.
He also directed MoRTH director Narendra Sharma to visit Ukhrul at the earliest, conduct a spot inspection and submit a report for necessary remedial action.
The visit is expected to look into the ground situation of the affected highway stretches and the issues delaying their construction.
