Ukhrul: The District Administration of Ukhrul on Wednesday carried out a massive cleanliness drive in Ukhrul Headquarters.
Garbage piled up and deposited haphazardly along the the roadside of Ukhrul town at various corners was cleared and disposed off safely at the temporary dumping site at Kasomphung, Hunphun by employing earth digger and tipper truck.

The cleanliness drive was participated and led by Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul, Kengoo Zuringla, SP of Ukhrul, Ningshem Vashum, CEO of ADC-Ukhrul, David Kashungnao along with police personnel, volunteers of “KHAMATEK” and locality leaders of Ukhrul Town.

Due to the closure of dumping site at Asso of Kazipphung, Hungpung since May 8, 2023, the waste has been piling up in the heart of the small town. “Oozing unpleasant smell and infested with flies, the garbage deposited on the roadside pose a serious health threat to the populace of Ukhrul town. The initiative taken up by the District Administration is a sight of relief for the commuters and populace of Ukhrul town” stated Akui Chahongnao. He also expressed immense gratitude to all the concerned authority for the initiative.

Segregation of “Waste Materials” at the source and at the dumping site has become a major issue for safe disposal of waste in the hill district of Ukhrul. The haphazard disposal of waste materias by the public is a big concern for the authority maintaining the town.
To tackle the issue of waste management at Ukhrul Headquarters, collection card will be issued by the Small Town Committee of ADC- Ukhrul with a monthly charge of Rs. 200. The STC shall collect the waste materials from Kharasom Junction to District Hospital from 10:00 am to 11:00 am everyday except on holidays.
