Ukhrul, March 8: A two-day Sanitation Awareness cum Cleanliness Drive was successfully organised in Mayotang, Ukhrul Headquarters, on March 6 and 7. The initiative was spearheaded by the Mayotang Committee, Mayotang Women Society, and Mayotang Youth, with the primary objective of promoting cleanliness and proper waste management in the locality.
The drive aimed to encourage residents to maintain clean surroundings, dispose of waste materials such as plastic and baby diapers responsibly, and eliminate open defecation, particularly in small streams.
Residents were urged to use proper home toilets and ensure their maintenance. The campaign also stressed on smart waste management practices, including the controlled burning of waste, the use of dustbins, and the utilisation of stream water for drinking purposes.

Additionally, the initiative sought to scale up the Mayotang locality’s awareness model to a larger Ukhrul town model.
The event was organised under the leadership of locality Chairman Patron Phungshok.
Other activities the Mayotnag locality undertook in the past included,
Inspection of household waste disposal systems; Evaluation of toilet maintenance and functionality; Cleaning and revamping of small streams that had been used as dumping grounds; Informing house owners about penalties for failing to maintain their surroundings; Installation of local notice boards for community announcements.; and controlled burning of plastic waste.
The drive has so far covered approximately 600-700 households, fostering a cleaner and more sustainable environment in Mayotang.
