Mega Aid Camp Held in Chandel for Special Needs Students

Chandel, August 4: Naorem Praveen Singh, IAS, Secretary of Education (S), Manipur, on Monday distributed aids and devices such as wheelchairs and hearing appliances to children at the Maha Union Government Higher Secondary School (MUGHSS), Chandel. The event was part of the Week-Long Mega Identification, Assessment & Aids and Devices Distribution Camp.

The camp was organized by the Zonal Education Office (ZEO), Chandel under Samagra Shiksha, as part of the Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam (5th Anniversary of NEP 2020), in collaboration with the RBSK Team, District Health Department, and ALIMCO (Artificial Limb Manufacturing Corporation of India), Guwahati.

Speaking at the event, Naorem Praveen Singh, IAS, emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring proper care for children with special needs in schools by deploying special teachers. He urged the concerned authorities to conduct proper assessments of such students and provide detailed information, along with the necessary aids and equipment required.

He noted that the camp at MUGHSS, Chandel, is part of a broader identification and assessment drive being conducted across 35 blocks. “In the second phase, we aim to cover the entire state, collect detailed data on special students in every school, and provide the necessary equipment and appliances,” he said. “We will also ensure the deployment of special teachers to support these students in all schools.”

As part of the camp, students from various schools in and around Chandel district headquarters were assessed by specialist doctors from ENT, Orthopaedics, and Psychiatry departments. The camp will continue at Chakpikarong High School in the Chakpikarong subdivision of Chandel on Tuesday.

In addition, along with Hb. Starson Anal, ZEO in-charge, Chandel; Kl. Warson Anal, Principal in-charge, MUGHSS Chandel; and staff of the ZEO office, the Education Secretary also inspected the school and reviewed the facilities. He held an in-depth discussion with the principal in-charge on ways to improve the educational infrastructure.

The camp is being held as part of the 5th Anniversary celebrations of the National Education Policy (NEP) and the Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam, aiming at the early identification and medical assessment of Children with Special Needs (CwSN) across 35 educational blocks.
