Meghalaya man gets selected as Indian Mountaineering Foundation member

Shillong: General Secretary of the Meghalaya Sport Climbing and Mountaineering Association (MeSCMA), Wallambok Lyngdoh has been selected as one of the members of Governing Council (GC) of Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) during the 57th Annual General Body Meeting at IMF campus, New Delhi held on November 20.

IMF is an apex body that regulates and controls all mountaineering and allied sports activities in the country. It is a regulatory body under the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs for Sport Climbing at the National and International level including the Olympics. It is also affiliated with the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC).

The Governing Council is a selected committee of active members who preside and promulgate all the activities of IMF for the promotion of mountaineering and adventure sports including Sport Climbing in the country.

The election for the coveted post was contested by 20 eminent mountaineers from the active panel of IMF members of which a total of 11 of them were shortlisted through voting.

The Governing Council has a fixed tenure of two years with newly elected President Prof (Dr) Harshwanti Bisht.

“MeSCMA will benefit immensely with its stature at IMF towards the promotion of its Sports in the State and National level and will work closely with the national body to gain maximum benefits for the state in the field of adventure sports. This will also enhance the representation of the North East states more vigorously on such apex forums in the future,” the association said in a statement.

The members elected to GC include – Col Amit Bisht, SM (Uttarakhand) Bhaskar Das (Jalpaiguri), Debraj Dutta (Kolkata), Chaula Jagirdar (Gujrat), Harish Chander Joshi (Delhi), Wallambok Lyngdoh (Meghalaya), Ranveer Singh Negi (Uttarakhand), Tusi Anit Sah (Uttarakhand), K Saraswati (Maharashtra), Prem Singh, DIG ITBP and Col Vijay Singh (Himachal Pradesh)
