Shillong: NPP candidate for the Shillong parliamentary seat and cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh expressed her regret over the negative campaigning brought by the opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) into Meghalaya’s political arena.

Addressing the media after casting her vote, Lyngdoh stated, “I will not say that elections in Meghalaya have become aggressive. I will say that there are players in the political scenario who have become nasty and negative, lacking mutual respect. It is this one party that has left a bitter taste in everybody’s minds. Gone are the days when the state of Meghalaya mutually respected all political parties. We are now at a stage where one very aggressive party is trampling on everybody else’s opinion, and that is something we have to deal with in the state. I will try my best to eliminate this negative politics that we are witnessing, where parties are poking each other and pushing people to say regretful things. This dirt that they have brought into Meghalaya’s political scenario is very regretful.”

She further remarked, “I have been actively involved in politics since I was like 8-9 years old. I have never seen this level of hate, which is dangerous and could destroy us.”

Regarding her confidence in the elections, Lyngdoh stated, “This is the first time I have contested the MP elections. I will not say I am confident, but I will say that my team has worked well. My party has coordinated efficiently, with every soldier on the ground actively involved in garnering support. I believe it will yield positive results because every booth on the ground is aggressively fighting against the hate politics that has emerged in Meghalaya during this MP election.”

Reflecting on her journey, Lyngdoh said, “I took it with all sincerity, put in all my efforts, and gave my best. My journey throughout the 36 constituencies has been fulfilling. I vow to put in all efforts to ensure that we work together in all 36 constituencies for the benefit of the people.”

“We are here to serve the people without compromise. I have taken note of every observation and will lobby, consult, and highlight the issues that need urgent attention by the government,” she added.

Asserting that she does not believe people are speaking against the government, Lyngdoh said, “People have welcomed me with open arms, and I have received much respect, love, and expectations throughout my journey to all 36 constituencies. That is what has given me the strength to continue. I never felt rejection of my candidature, which motivates me personally to continue and complete my journey to the best of my capacity and capability.”
