Shillong, July 9: The Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) has expressed deep concern over the increasing incidents of femicide and gender-related violence in various districts of Meghalaya in 2025.
MSCW chairperson Iamon Syiem said the Commission has taken cognizance of the disturbing pattern and has been monitoring each incident of crimes against women.

“The year 2025 has witnessed a series of femicide and gender-related violence in various districts of Meghalaya. It is a disturbing pattern reflecting the loss of respect for human life in our society and in the safety of both public and private space for our women and children,” Syiem said.
“The MSCW has taken cognizance of this pattern and monitored each incident of crimes against women. Needless to say, the Commission unequivocally condemns these brutal acts of violence against women and our young children. We have also taken note of the pattern of aggression, anger and threats which also surface through the cases which come through to the Commission. We note with great concern the level of fear and insecurity that is evident in cases of domestic violence at home and sreadexual harassment at the workplace,” she said.

The Commission has appealed to citizens and authorities to be vigilant and report any indications of threat or violence.
“We appeal to every citizen and persons of authority to be vigilant and intervene and report against any indication of threat of violence that occurs in your locality or place of work. Our mission is to actively move towards a zero tolerance for any kind of gender-based violence, violence against women and children (both boys and girls),” Syiem said.

The Commission has requested the press fraternity and social influencers to be responsible and gender-sensitive in their reporting of cases against women and children.
The Commission has appealed to the public to report obscene content and refrain from making obscene comments.
The Commission seeks collaboration with citizens, authorities and the media to create a safer and more respectful society.
