UKHRUL: The Meitei Alliance has condemned the killing of three civilians near Nongshum in Khamenlok, Kangpokpi district, on October 19, and demanded the immediate abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreements with the Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and United People’s Front (UPF).

The Meitei Alliance said the victims were collecting firewood for their livelihood when they were reportedly attacked by armed Kuki militants. It also expressed condolences to the bereaved families.
It alleged that the attack was carried out by KNF-N, a non-SoO group which it claimed operates as a proxy of Kuki militant groups covered by the SoO agreements.

Accusing the state and central governments of failing to curb armed violence, the Meitei Alliance said political assurances and claims of normalcy could not ensure peace without effective action against armed groups.
It called for the disarmament of all militant groups, including alleged proxies, and the prosecution of those responsible for the killings. It also urged the authorities to enforce the law impartially and strengthen security operations across Manipur.

It further urged the people of Manipur, particularly the youth, to rise above political divisions and work towards addressing the state’s continuing security and humanitarian challenges.
