Ukhrul: Minister PHE & CAF/PD, L Susindro Meitei on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for “augmentation of water supply source for Ukhrul District Headquarters” in the presence of minister Veterinary and Animal Husbandry and Transport, Khashim Vashum, MLA of 44-Ukhrul, Ram Muivah, MLA of Lamlai, Kh Ibomcha Singh and chief executive engineer of PHED, Shangreiphao Vashum at the premise of PHED Ukhrul Office, Phungreitang.

Speaking at the occasion, minister L Susindro Meitei called for solving the water crisis at Ukhrul Headquarters. He stated “Let us solve the water crisis together. Let us find a permanent solution for ending the water crisis in Ukhrul Headquarters. The present government is taking all initiatives for the welfare of the people of Ukhrul. We would not give a contract to those companies who fail to comply with the guidelines and work orders. The water is freely given by the people of Shirui and not by the department. Therefore, we should be grateful to the Shirui villagers for the generosity and concern. Even though it is freely given, we need resources for management of the same. Therefore, time has come to strengthen the Village Level Water Sanitation Committee (VLWSC) and frame a water management policy for strict implementation. Let us use water judiciously and secure water scarcity problems in Ukhrul Headquarters.”

Minister L Susindro Meitei added, “CM N Biren is very much concerned about the development of Ukhrul. The government under the leadership of honourable CM N Biren has been working day in and day out for the welfare of the people of Manipur. Various schemes are being implemented for the weaker and poor section of the people. Let no one disturb while bringing development in Ukhrul.”
“Quarters will be constructed for every non local employee of PHED Ukhrul Division in short times. I want the name of every employee to paste at the gate” added minister L Susindro Meitei.

On the request of minister Khashim Vashum, minister L Susindro promised to provide additional water tanker for Ukhrul to meet the water crisis situation especially during dry season.
Appointment orders were distributed to the 2 villagers from Shirui as Multi Tasking Staff at PHED Ukhrul Division on contractual basis.
The project will be constructed at a cost of Rs 6 crores.

The dignitaries landed at 35 AR Somsai Helipad at 10:40 am and was warmly received by DC of Ukhrul, Kengoo Zuringla, SP of Ukhrul, Ningshem Vashum, Former National Football Star and Social Worker, Somatai Shaiza, Student Activist, Hashokmi Kamkara and others.
