Miscreant torches three trucks at Sekmai, Imphal West

Imphal: Amid the prevailing unrest in Manipur, miscreants on Saturday set afire three trucks at Sekmai Awang Leikai under Sekmai police station of Imphal West district.

On receiving the information regarding the burning down of the three trucks, a team of Sekmai police station along with fire tenders from Imphal rushed to the spot and doused the fire. However, most parts of the trucks were damaged by the fire.

A police source said that the trucks were used to transport LPG cylinders and the miscreants set on fire today, around 10:30 am.

The police registered a case and initiated investigation to ascertain the motive behind setting fire to the trucks and to establish the identity of the miscreants behind torching of the vehicles.

Local reports said that the three LPG ferrying trucks came out from the Gas Bottling plant at Sekmai around 8 am today and proceeded to a place.

However, the miscreants forcibly stopped the vehicles and took them to Sekmai Awang Leikai where they set fire the vehicles there, around 10:30 am.

The burning of the trucks came to light when locals rushed to the spot on seeing smoke engulfing in the sky from the area.

The locals informed about the incident to the police who rushed to the spot and doused the fire with fire tenders called out from Imphal.

Drivers of the three trucks were, however, not found at the spot, the reports said. A team of Imphal West district led by its SP Dr S Ibomcha along with BSF and CRPF rushed to the site.
