UKHRUL: Mizoram is set to prepare for the festive season hosting its first-ever Christmas Costume Parade on Tuesday (December 23).
According to tourism minister Lalnghinglova Hmar, the main objective is to promote Mizoram as the Christmas destination of the country positioning it as a leading winter tourism destination in India. He also added Mizoram celebrates Christmas in a unique manner pertaining to local, cultural and community based values.

Highlighting local events, Hmar mentioned Mizoram hosts traditional Christmas feasts and celebrations rarely found elsewhere and invited people from across India to visit the state to experience Christmas in Mizoram.
The Christmas Costume Parade will begin at 12:00 p.m from Ch. Saprawnga Building. In a recent event, Mizoram successfully concluded the Winter Festival which according to Hmar—recorded a good footfall, strong social media reach and a positive vibe overall.

Hmar further mentioned the year-end celebration will be held on December 31 at Sakawrhmuituai Hill located in the outskirts of Aizawl. It is the most iconic tourist destination in Mizoram with an elevation of 1,535 metres. The event titled Sakawrhmuituai Sunset will showcase a music festival and a scenic sunset from the hilltop.
The Mizoram Tourism Department will be oragnising the Christmas Costume parade annually with the long-term vision of setting Mizoram as the winter festival capital of India.
