Mizoram jail break: 5 Myanmar nationals escapes from Lunglei jail

Aizawl: In a daring jail break, 5 inmates, including 3 convicted persons, escaped from District jail Lunglei in Mizoram in the wee hours of Wednesday, April 19 2023.

The incident occurred at district jail Sazaikawn around 2 am at Mizoram’s Lunglei District. The escaping prisoners are identified as:

1. Lalchawimawia (24) from Tahan, Myanmar but presently staying at Thangte village in Lunglei district.

2.  Lalbawihliana (27).

3. Dokapthanga (26) — Both Lalbawihliana and Dokapthanga are said to be from Zokhawthar.

4. Haudeuhchhin (25) from Tlangnuam Champhai.

5. Vanneihthanga (38) from Leisen, Myanmar.

Lalchawimawia was recently convicted for murdering a 49-year-old women in 2022. He allegedly murdered T Vanlalduati with machete after robbing her on September 6, 2022.

Lalbawihliana , Dokapthang, Haudeihchhin and Vanneihthanga were arrested for possession and trafficking of heroin from Myanmar and booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Lalbawihliana and Vanneihthanga had been undergoing jail terms after being convicted by Courts while Dokapthanga and Haudeihchhin were under trial prisoners.
