Adding second gold and India’s fifth medal at the ongoing Common Wealth Games 2022 at Birmingham, United Kingdom, Mizoram’s 19-year-old, Jeremy Lalrinnunga won gold medal in the 67 kg Men’s weightlifting event.
“It’s my first CWG and I’m feeling great. After the Youth Olympics this is going to be the biggest competition for me after four years as I had missed out on the Olympics,” Jeremy told PTI.
Jeremy in 2018 became the first Indian to win a gold at Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.

Exuberant Jeremy Lalrinnunga took to twitter and said, “Lifting three tons over my shoulder wouldn’t have been possible without the strength of my nation backing me. This is gold is just the beginning.”

India has so far tallied five medals with Bindyarani Devi Sorokhaibam’s of Manipur who won silver medal on day- 2 in the weightlifting 55 kg category; Saikhom Mirabai Chanu won gold in Women’s 49 kg weight category; Gururaja a bronze medal in Men’s 61 kg event; Sanket Sargar who bagged silver medal in Men’s 55 kg weightlifting event.
Jeremy was also congratulated by President of Inida, “Congratulations, Jeremy Lalrinnunga for winning gold in Weightlifting at Common Wealth Games. Your self-belief despite injury during the event enabled you to create history & inspire millions.Your podium finish has filled Indians with pride. Wishing you more such moments of glory.”
