UKHRUL: In a bid to uplift the border areas of Kamjong district, Phungyar MLA Leishiyo Keishing has urged Union Home Minister and Minister of Co-operation Amit Shah to support the development of a model town and an Integrated Check-Post (ICP-2) at K Ashang Khullen Aze (KAKA) in Manipur’s Kamjong district.
Kamjong, wth 123 recognised villages and 23 hamlets spread over 2,400 sq km, shares a 120-kilometre international border with Myanmar.
In a proposal submitted to the Union Minister recently, MLA Leishiyo Keishing urged for grant aid from the ministries, including the Ministry of Home Affairs, for the development programme of a model town and an ICP-2 at KAKA, located near the international border pillar No 92.

MLA Keishing stressed that the proposed programme aims to promote trade, tourism and economic growth in the region, leveraging its strategic location and natural resources.
In the proposal, MLA Keishing stated that a preliminary estimate amounting to Rs 4,460 crore has been prepared for the development of a model town and ICP-2 at KAKA. This was made based on the recommendation letter regarding development of Model Town and ICP-2 at K Ashang Khullen Aze (KAKA) by the Department of Textiles, Commerce & Industry, Government of Manipur, vide letter No. TnC-101/4/2021-TCI-TC & C&l, dated:18/07/2024.

“To cover up the project cost we are seeking grant-in-aid from the Ministries of the Government of India to support this initiative,” stated the MLA.
The other ministries sought for consideration and necessary assistance include tourism, health, education, youth affairs & sports, commerce & industry & agriculture, housing and urban development, external affairs and finance (for allocation of funds).
MLA Keishing maintained that the development of K Ashang Khullen Aze (KAKA) as a Model Town and ICP-2 will not only boost economic growth but also strengthen India’s relations with Myanmar and promote regional cooperation.
