UKHRUL: The Magulong Na Students’ Union (MNSU) has expressed strong dissatisfaction over the prolonged delay in the construction and blacktopping of the Katang–Magulong road under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), while also raising concerns over the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) water supply project in Magulong village.
In a press statement issued on October 28, the MNSU said the 12.20-km road project, sanctioned under PMGSY Package No. MN07177, Phase-XI, remains incomplete despite the stipulated completion date of September 12, 2020.

According to the MNSU, the maintenance period for the road was scheduled from September 13, 2020, to September 12, 2025. However, essential works, including blacktopping, construction of retaining walls, culverts and drainage systems, are yet to be completed.
The union said vegetation has overgrown sections of the road, while rough and rocky stretches have made daily commuting extremely difficult for residents. It described the road’s condition as deplorable, despite the passage of more than a year since the scheduled completion of the project.
The MNSU has appealed to the concerned authorities and department to sanction additional funds, if necessary, and expedite the remaining works to ensure completion by December 2026.
Meanwhile, the MNSU has raised concerns over the JJM water supply project in Magulong village, funded under the New Development Bank (NDB), alleging that a completion report has been submitted despite mandatory works, including pipeline laying, remaining incomplete.
It has urged the concerned department to conduct a mandatory spot verification and joint inspection in the presence of the Village Authority and the students’ union before issuing any completion certificate.
Warning of further action, the MNSU said it would be compelled to launch a democratic form of agitation if the concerned authorities and contractor failed to address its demands.
