UKHRUL: The Manipur Naga Youth Organisation (MNYO) has submitted a letter to the Director General of Police (DGP), Government of Manipur, seeking adequate security forces and enhanced security arrangements along National Highway 37 and the Bishnupur-Tupul Road. This plea comes following the October 31 gunfight at Tajeikaiphun Village under Nungba Police Station, Noney District, which resulted in casualties.

In its letter, the MNYO expresses grave concern over the prevailing security apprehension following the recent gunfight.
“The incident has triggered widespread fear and insecurity among commuters travelling along National Highway No. 37, notwithstanding the existing provision of security escorts. The situation has raised serious concerns over the safety of passengers and transporters, as well as uninterrupted transport of essential commodities and other goods along this vital national highway,” it said.
The MNYO appeals for immediate proactive measures to strengthen security arrangements, particularly at vulnerable Kuki-dominated stretches, by deploying adequate security personnel, establishing additional security outposts, and intensifying patrolling and surveillance. Further, the organisation also expresses its deep concern over reports of alleged threats circulating on social media, purportedly issued by unidentified Kuki elements, warning of attacks on any vehicle plying along these highways.

“Such threatening messages have often been precursors to indiscriminate firing by armed Kuki militants, which further aggravated public anxiety and created an atmosphere of insecurity among commuters,” MNYO added.
The MNYO then appealed to the police department to formulate and implement a comprehensive security protection plan to restore public confidence, ensure the safe and uninterrupted movement of commuters and transporters, and prevent any further loss of innocent lives.
