Monsang Community Gets Its Fourth Catholic Priest; SUR Congratulates

CHANDEL: The Monsang community got its fourth Catholic priest following the ordination of Deacon Ts. Albert Monsang on Sunday during the 15th Catholic Congress of St. Peter’s Parish, Monsang Pantha, Chandel. He was ordained by Most Rev. Dominic Lumon, DD, Archbishop Emeritus of Imphal.

Interestingly, Rev. Fr. Ts. Albert Monsang hails from Monsang Pantha village in Chandel where from all the four Catholic priests of the Monsang community hail from. They are Most Rev. Dominic Lumon, DD, Archbishop Emeritus of Imphal, (L) Fr. Albert Khartu, Fr. Albert Rakesh and Fr. Ts. Albert Monsang.

The Monsang community has about a 1000 Catholics with over 600 of them from Monsang Pantha village itself. There are six Nuns from the Monsang community too.

Though from Manipur, Fr. Albert Monsang will serve in the Diocese of Itanagar.

As over a thousand faithfuls attended the Mass and prayed, Deacon Ts Albert Monsang was ordained.

Most Rev. Benny Varghese Edathattel, DD, the Bishop of Itanagar Diocese also attended the ordination as co-celebrant. The ordination was also attended by over 30 Priests as co-celebrants, Nuns, Church leaders, faithfuls and well wishers.

Born on 21 August, 1993 to Ts. Beningtin Benedict and (L) W. Tiwar Teresa, Fr. Albert is the sixth among the eight siblings. He was baptised on 12th Sept. 1993 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Monsang Pantha and received First Holy Communion in 2006. He was given the Sacrament of Confirmation on 18th Jan. 2009 at Charangching Khullen during the Parish Catholic Congress.

The 15th Catholic Congress of the St. Peter’s Parish, Monsang Pantha is being held under the theme “Hope in hard times, faith beyond finances”. It is being held from 29th January to 2nd February at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Monsang Pantha.

Meanwhile, the Sirti Upa Ruh (Monsang Tribe Union) has extended its heartfelt congratulations to Rev. Fr. Ts. Albert Monsang.

In a press release, the SUR stated that “the Monsang Naga Civil Society Organisations – Sirti Upa Ruh (Monsang Tribe Union), Sirti Sanuw Ruh (Monsang Women Union) and Sirti Thiimjiitam Sourkhe (Monsang Naga Students’ Union) with respect and honour congratulated to priestly ordained Rev. Fr. Ts. Albert Monsang on his Ordination Day”.

Monsang Naga Leaders appreciate him for his life journey, commitment and dedication in the services of our Almighty Living God, SUR said.

SUR president Ng. Benithan along with general secretary Sh. Micky Victory and other members presented the newly ordained priest with a memento.
