Imphal: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Meghachandra Keisham has addressed letters today to both the Election Commission of India and the Chief Electoral Officer of Manipur, underscoring the necessity for robust security arrangements at six polling stations slated for re-polls on Tuesday.
The election authorities in Manipur are primed for the seamless execution of fresh polls at six polling stations within the Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary constituency on Tuesday (April 30).

These re-polls are scheduled at the aforementioned six polling stations, where previous voting on April 26, during the second phase of Lok Sabha elections, was nullified by the ECI due to various incidents, including violence leading to the destruction of EVMs and other polling materials.
The polling stations designated for fresh polls are as follows: four in the Ukhrul Assembly segment – 44/20-Shangshak A, 44/36-Ukhrul (A), 44/41-Ukhrul (D-I), and 44/50-Ukhrul (F); one in Chingai AC – 45/50-Chingai; and one in Karong assembly constituency of Senapati district – 47/33-Oinam (A1).

Polling officials, accompanied by security personnel dispatched from the district headquarters, have reached their respective polling stations today afternoon, ensuring adequate security measures for the smooth conduct of the polls.
Furthermore, the General Administrative department of the state government has declared a public holiday on the re-poll day for public offices, educational institutions, autonomous bodies, etc., and a paid holiday for commercial and private undertakings within the six polling stations where re-polls will be conducted.

Meanwhile, MPCC president Meghachandra Keisham, in a press conference today, expressed concerns over reports of armed individuals congregating in significant numbers in the areas designated for re-polling. He emphasized the grave concern of potential voter intimidation and coercion.
Citing instances of violence and electoral malpractices during the previous polling, Meghachandra demanded comprehensive security measures involving both Central and state security forces, along with the presence of an executive magistrate in each polling station to uphold the sanctity of the election model code of conduct.
