Demanding immediate roll back of the unpredented hike in fuel prices, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) staged protest demonstrations in front of petrol pumps and at Congress Bhavan, Imphal, today.

The demonstration was staged as a part of the countrywide  protest against the rising prices of petrol and goods under the supervision of All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi.

Speaking to media persons, MPCC president Govindas Konthoujam stated that Governments in other countries are controlling the prices of essential items for the wellbeing of the people during the Covid pandemic. However, in India, the price of petrol is shooting up despite the drop in crude oil price.

Saying that the prices of essentials are increasing due to the sharp hike in the price of petroleum products, the MPCC president urged  the Government to revise the price of petrol and essentials in the larger interest of the people.

He also opined that removing the BJP led Government is the  only option to revamp the Indian economy.

MPCC general secretary (adm) Hareshwar Goswami said that increasing the price of petroleum products at a time during the Covid pandemic is irrational.

Saying that the Government is compounding the hardships of the people by levying more taxes on petroleum products, he demanded the Government to revise the prices of fuel.
