Imphal:  Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has written a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) asking whether the alleged convergence of a large number of people at the official residence of Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh in Imphal recently had violated the Model Code of Conduct.

Recently, a large number of people, mostly women, allegedly converged at the official residence of Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh in Imphal. The video of the event went viral on various social media platforms.

Addressing a press conference at Imphal Congress Bhavan, MPCC spokesperson Rabi Khan informed that the legal cell of the MPCC has brought up the matter to the notice of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manipur on Monday.

He said that the CEO office took the matter seriously and assured to look into the matter to take up necessary action that amounted to violation of the Model Code of Conduct that has been in force after the announcement of the election schedules.

Rabi Khan said that the public had witnessed the convergence of a large number of women inside the chief minister’s office that had even caused traffic disruptions in the vicinity.

The videos surfaced on various social media platforms cast doubt that it was a deliberate attempt to influence voters through the distribution of freebies, he added.
