UKHRUL: The United Naga Council (UNC) has issued a strong appeal for peace and unity following the killing of four Naga Army personnel at Hongbei village in Kamjong District on Saturday.

In a statement, the council described the incident as a tragic and deeply distressing event that has shaken the Naga community at a time when unity is most critical. Calling the killings “fratricidal,” the UNC emphasized that such acts of violence among brethren only deepen existing challenges and threaten the collective future of the Naga people.

The UNC strongly condemned the killings and urged the Government of the People’s Republic of Nagaland (GPRN) to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident. It called for immediate and decisive action against those responsible. Specifically, the council demanded a thorough investigation into the cause of the incident and swift punitive measures against the perpetrators to ensure justice is delivered without delay.

Expressing solidarity with the victims’ families, the UNC conveyed its deepest condolences and prayed for strength and healing for those grieving the loss. The statement also paid tribute to the deceased personnel, honoring them as valiant individuals.

Invoking a cautionary observation by R. Suisa, the council reminded the community of the dangers of disunity, warning that internal divisions could lead to self-destruction if not addressed with urgency and collective resolve. The UNC further urged all sections of society to exercise restraint and uphold peace and harmony. Stressing the need for reconciliation, it called on the Naga people to stand together, reject violence, and support one another during this difficult period.

“Together, let us shun violence, march in unison, and work towards healing,” the statement concluded, appealing for unity to safeguard the future of the community.
