UKHRUL: Rupa Bayor from Arunachal Pradesh has secured a place in the Indian Taekwondo team after emerging successful at the Final National Team Trial held at Kormangala Stadium in Bengaluru.

Congratulating the athlete, Pema Khandu said that earning a spot in the national team reflects her dedication, discipline, and relentless hard work. He shared his message on X, praising her achievement.

Bayor was recently honoured as the Best Taekwondo Poomsae Player of the Year at the 2026 India Taekwondo Gala Awards held at Hyatt Regency. She has also made history as the first Indian taekwondo athlete to attain a World Rank of 6 and Asia Rank 1. Her global ranking has shown remarkable progress over the years, rising from 123rd in 2021 to 42nd in 2022, 12th in 2023, and now reaching the top 10 worldwide, while continuing to hold the number one position in Asia.

Rupa Bayor is now set to represent India at the Asian Taekwondo Poomsae Championships scheduled to be held in Mongolia in 2026. Expressing confidence in her abilities, the Chief Minister stated that she is poised to achieve further success and bring pride to the nation.
