MSLSA & Meghalaya AIDS Control Society holds webinar

A webinar on State Consultation on Legal Protection for People Living with HIV (PLHIVS), Children Affected by HIV and AIDS (CABA) and Most at Risk Populations (MARPS) was organized by Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) in collaboration with Meghalaya AIDS Control Society on Friday and was attended by 28 participants.  

The online conference was chaired by the Member Secretary of MSLSA, N. A. Khan briefly discussed the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) Act 2017.

The Project Director of Meghalaya AIDS Control Society, Dr. (Mrs) R. Allya who shared her experience and findings on behalf of Meghalaya AIDS Control Society, which was followed by a keynote address by the National Consultant (IEC- Mainstreaming) of National AIDS Control Organization, Dr. Rajesh Rana.             

A Consultant (IEC) of the National AIDS Control Organization in New Delhi, Garima Sharma deliberated on the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) Act 2017 including a session on PLHIVs, CABA and MARPS. There was also an experience – sharing including challenges faced by people from the community, such as injecting drug users and people living with HIV.

An Advocate of Shillong Bar Association, Swapna Ghosh Neogi spoke on legal implications and ways to establish better linkages with legal services for better access.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from the Assistant Director (SP&M) of Meghalaya AIDS Control Society, Christine E. Marbaniang and the Officer on Special Duty of MSLSA, N. M. Momin.
