MSU Martyrs’ Trophy 2026 Concludes in Mao, Song Song FC Lifts Title

SENAPATI: The Mao Students’ Union (MSU) Martyrs’ Trophy 2026 concluded on Tuesday at the AFA Turf Ground, Asufii, Punanamei, Mao, with Song Song FC lifting the championship after defeating Pudanamei FC 4-0 in the final.

The tournament, which was originally scheduled to conclude on October 3, was postponed due to unavoidable reasons.

Held under the theme “Honouring our Martyrs, Building our Future”, the tournament witnessed a massive turnout at the closing ceremony, with people from different Naga tribes, civil society organisations and student bodies attending the event.

Song Song FC dominated the final, scoring four goals to secure the championship title.

Lohrii Kaisii of Song Song FC was awarded the Golden Ball, while Thomas Adaziio of Song Song FC received the Golden Boot. Nerio of Chowainu FC was awarded the Golden Glove.

The Emerging Player awards went to 19-year-old Zhiivuzii Chachei of Pudunamei FC and 17-year-old Pfokrehrii Athiziio of Punanamei FC.

Chowainamei Khullen FC was awarded the Best Discipline Team.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Mteisuding Zeliang Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) president said the federation had taken a strong resolution at its assembly to further strengthen Naga unity.

“We will stand united for whatever it is, even if the heaven falls down and the river dried up, Naga will stand firm and strong on Naga identity,” the NSF president said.

The NSF president also said the federation anticipated and wanted Naga legislators to remain strong and fight for the rights of the Naga people.

Referring to the tournament, the NSF president said, “Every kick in the tournament and today be the kicks of integrity and peace of Naga people. Every goal scored be the unity of Naga people.”

“May God bless the people of Naga people,” the NSF president added.

Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur Losii Dikho thanked the Mao Students’ Union for organising the tournament and appreciated students pursuing football.

He said football had received recognition through the All India Football Federation, AFA and Khelo India, and added that the government was willing to extend support for sports in the area.

“It is a good investment for our people as well,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.

The Martyrs’ Trophy 2026 was organised by the Mao Students’ Union at the AFA Turf Ground, Asufii, Punanamei, Mao.
