Multiple landslides in Nagaland’s Kiphire district puts lives at risk

Kohima: A devastating landslide occurred at Mission Compound ward in Kiphire district of Nagaland, causing significant damage and affecting several families, an official report said.

Heavy rainfall in the past few days has resulted in landslides at multiple locations in the district, putting the lives of at least six families at risk, with the potential to affect 50 to 60 more families, the report also said.

In response to the natural disaster, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) in collaboration with the Kiphire district administration swiftly conducted a visit to the affected areas. 

Relief funds have been provided to six families affected by the landslides.

Among the affected areas were Mission Compound ward, Power Station ward, Jail ward, and certain regions below Kiphire Village Baptist Church.

To mitigate further impacts, the concerned department has provided cash to the ward chairmen of the Rest House ward and Forest ward to purchase Tarpaulins and cover the affected areas, the report added.
