Myanmar national arrested in Mizoram again with Crystal Meth worth Rs 34

Aizawl: Mizoram police has expressed concerns over rising cases of drugs smuggling in the state. The police yet again arrested another Myanmar national with huge catch of Crystal Meth weighing around 11.6 Kgs worth Rs. 34 Crores on October 4 at Zemabawk East, Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram.

A press release from Mizoram Police Media Cell PHQ on October 5 informed that, on the evening of October 4 at around 7 PM, Aizawl District Special Branch (DSB) team intercepted one vehicle MZ01- 7001 (Tata Intra) at Zemabawk East and seized 11.6 Kgs of Crystal Methamphetamine worth Rs. 34 Crores from the illegal possession of Ropianga (37) S/o Lalthanga of Khawmawi, Myanmar.

“Drugs smuggling continues to be a major cause of concern to our society and beautiful State. With a view to improve general policing as a whole and in the preparation for peaceful and smooth conduct of General Legislative Assembly Election of Mizoram, 2023, Mizoram Police has also made all out efforts in the fight against this menace, resulting in significant seizures as well”, said the press release.

It may be mentioned that the Mizoram Police on October 3, made a significant catch of suspected rare Methamphetamine (Crystal Meth) weighing around 10.4 Kgs at the Lengpui Airport. The suspected drug amounts to around Rs. 31 crores in the international market. The contraband was reportedly peddled to Mizoram via Delhi from Myanmar by an accused identified as Lalremthangi (38), from Myanmar in a suitcase, detected at INDIGO security X-ray baggage inspection system at Lengpui Airport.
