Ukhrul, September 8: A wide spectrum of Naga District apex bodies across Manipur hills have declared full support for the United Naga Council’s (UNC) “trade embargo”, which began from midnight of September 8, 2025, throughout all Naga-inhabited areas.
In Senapati, the Naga People’s Organisation (NPO), Senapati District Women Association (SDWA), and Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA) said the embargo opposes the abrogation of the Free Movement Regime (FMR) and border fencing “across Naga homeland.” They noted that despite repeated representations since January 19, 2024, the Government of India’s “indifferent attitude” has compelled “stringent agitation.” The three apex bodies directed the public to strictly observe the embargo, allowing no exemption unless cleared by the UNC.

Separately, the Joint Tribes Council (JTC), Joint Tribes Women Association (JTWA), and Joint Tribes Students Association (JTSA) also declared full support, citing opposition to the abrogation of the FMR and fencing that “threatens to divide the Naga people.” They recalled that the UNC had pursued memoranda, rallies, and democratic initiatives since January 2024 without a meaningful response.
