UKHRUL: The Naga Lawyers Association, Manipur (NLAM) on Sunday held its first General Body Meeting at the Adimjati Shiksha Ashram Hall in Chingmeirong, Imphal, marking a significant organisational milestone since its formation in 2024.
The meeting brought together advocates and legal practitioners from the Naga community across Manipur to deliberate on the functioning of the association, its future roadmap, and issues concerning the legal fraternity.

NLAM was established in August 2024 with Adv. Mark Khapai as its president and Adv. Khatter Playson Anal as its general secretary. Guided by the motto “Strive for Justice,” the association seeks to promote the common interests of Naga lawyers while contributing to the welfare of the Naga community.
The association was formally announced in September 2024 after advocates representing various Naga tribes came together to establish a common legal platform. The current executive committee, elected at the time of its formation, will serve a three-year term from 2024 to 2027.
It may be recalled that Adv. Mark Khapai, in his capacity as president of the Naga Lawyers Association, Manipur, filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) before the High Court of Manipur on June 4, seeking urgent judicial intervention in connection with the alleged abduction of six Naga civilians by Kuki armed groups. The petition then, was filed amid growing concern over the fate and whereabouts of the six missing civilians, urging the court to ensure swift action by the authorities.
