UKHRUL, June 27: The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has demanded an unconditional public apology from the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) over its use of the term “Kacha Naga” and called on the Government of Manipur to take immediate legal action to ensure justice in the killing of six Liangmai Naga civilians.

In a press communiqué issued on Saturday, the TNL Working Committee described the KZC’s statement regarding the abduction and killing of the six civilians from Konsakhul (Konsaram) village as “extremely repulsive and impudent” and said it was unacceptable to any civilised community.

The TNL-WC said the KZC chairman’s expression of regret over the killings, which it said came only after the Council had admitted responsibility for the incident, was “utterly unqualified and unacceptable.” It further objected to the use of the term “Kacha Naga,” describing it as defamatory and provocative.

Accordingly, the TNL Working Committee demanded that the KZC issue an official and unconditional public apology without delay for what it termed the use of an inappropriate expression against the Nagas of Manipur.

The TNL-WC also reiterated a series of demands to the Government of Manipur, including the immediate arrest, prosecution and punishment of those responsible for the abduction and killing of the six civilians to uphold the rule of law. It further called for the immediate abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with Kuki militant groups and sought the arrest of KNF-P cadres allegedly involved in the killings.

In addition, the TNL Working Committee urged the government to initiate legal proceedings against KZC office bearers for their alleged responsibility and what it described as their initial perjury in connection with the case. It also asserted that the Kuki-Zo Council had been declared a non-existent organisation by a Government of Manipur notification dated December 18, 2024, and urged the authorities to immediately disband the organisation.
