Kohima: The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) has written to the chairperson, National Commission for Women seeking her immediate intervention into the violent crimes against women in the ongoing Manipur ethnic cleansing war.
“We can only think or talk of peace when punitive action is served and victims and their families see justice,” wrote NMA.
Pointing to the latest two cases following the abduction and brutal murder of Lucy Marem, a Maring Naga tribe woman at Sawombung (Imphal – Ukhrul road) on July 15 by armed people of the Meitei community, NMA said it is aggrieved at the violence perpetrated against women since May 3 which continues unabated.
The shocking incident of two Vaiphei young women of the Kuki-Zo community at Kangpokpi district’s B. Phainom village, Naga Mothers’ Association wrote, “were stripped, paraded naked along the street, groped and raped by armed young Meiteis.”

Stating that the horrifying violence and trauma of the victims in the video is a shame to humanity and all the people of the region, the Naga Mothers’ Association demanded an immediate inquiry be set up by the National Commission for both the incidents and countless others such incidents.
NMA further lamented that the prevailing conflict in Manipur have made women and young girls the target, where they are mercilessly being raped, killed and forced to bear untold violence.
Meanwhile, the 10 Manipur Naga MLAs Forum in a joint statement has vehemently condemned the shocking incident of two innocent Kuki-Zo women who were stripped naked, paraded publicly and molested by a mob.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the 10 Naga MLAs said that such “heinous and beastly crime against our people is unacceptable and due rigorous punishments must be given to all those involved.”

Further it pointed out that the B. Phainom village viral incident has truly manifested unspeakable crime against our women which continues to amplify the present crisis and plague Manipur.
While calling for immediate arrest of the culprits involved, the 10 Manipur Naga MLAs urged that measures be provided for those affected victims and family members.
Extending condolences to those bereaved family members of those killed in the sad incident, the Forum also extended its sincerer solidarity to those victims and family members who were traumatized and pained.
