UKHRUL: The Naga People’s Union, Imphal (NPUI) has strongly opposed the conduct of the census before the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), backing the Joint Forum for Delimitation’s (JFD) ongoing campaign against the self-enumeration process.
In a press release made available to Ukhrul Times on Wednesday, NPUI president M. Ngaranmi said the State Government had not provided any concrete assurance or given a positive response to the people’s demand for the identification of illegal immigrants before the census operation.

The NPUI said the situation in Manipur was a result of the entry of illegal immigrants into the State from outside Manipur and maintained that efforts were being made to safeguard the interests and future of the next generation.
The Naga union in Imphal extended its support to all activities undertaken by the JFD in pursuit of its demand, “No NRC, No Census.”
