In a directive issued on Tuesday, NSUC called on all educational institutions within Chandel District to observe the day as a holiday to commemorate the historic Naga Plebiscite held in 1951. The union emphasized that the day is a significant reminder of the enduring spirit, unity, and cultural heritage of the Naga people.

“The Naga Plebiscite Day is more than a historical date—it is a reminder of our people’s resistance, unity, and enduring spirit in preserving our cultural heritage and asserting our rights,” the directive stated.

NSUC appealed to educational institutions to respect the historical importance of the day by closing schools and colleges on May 16. The directive further urged students to engage in meaningful activities and programs that promote awareness, understanding, and respect for the community and its cultural roots.
