ANSAM, SDSA Call for Flag Hoisting and Holiday on May 16 – Naga Plebiscite Day

Senapati, 14 May: The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has directed all its Constituent Units and Subordinate Units to hoist the Naga National Flag to commemorate the 74th Naga Plebiscite Day on 16th May, 2025.

This directive aligns with the resolution adopted during the Second Presidential Council Meeting of ANSAM and is in consonance with the resolutions of the First Legislative Assembly of ANSAM for the 2024–2026 tenure.

The office of ANSAM has earnestly requested all leaders of the Constituent Units and Subordinate Units to strictly enforce this directive within their respective jurisdictions.

Similarly, The office of the Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA), while formally acknowledging and responding to the directive issued by the All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM), has directed all institutions in the district to declare May 16, 2025 as a holiday in observance of Naga Plebiscite Day.

In a press release issued by the office, it was stated that the significance of Naga Plebiscite Day resonates deeply within the Naga community, representing a pivotal moment in its history and an opportunity for reflection on the identity, rights, and aspirations of the Nagas. While requesting all institutions to declare the day a holiday, the student body emphasized that recognizing the day not only honors the memories of the past but also reinforces the community’s commitment to the ongoing dialogue surrounding its future.

In light of the ANSAM directive, the office of the SDSA appeals to all educational institutions within the district to declare a holiday in honor of the historic Naga Plebiscite Day of 1951. It stated that the day serves as a reminder of the collective journey and the importance of unity in pursuing shared goals.

Furthermore, the student body encourages students to organize events and activities that promote understanding and respect for Naga cultural heritage on this day, stating that such initiatives will enhance community engagement and foster a spirit of togetherness as the Nagas commemorate this significant occasion.
