SENAPATI, NOV 22: The Naga Women’s Union (NWU) has urged the Director General of Police, Manipur, to take all necessary steps to maintain peace and tranquillity across the state.
In a statement, the NWU expressed concern over the incident of November 20, 2025, during a protest by internally displaced persons (IDPs) against the Sangai Festival. It appealed to authorities to handle the matter with restraint to avoid any escalation of tension.

The NWU also called on the DGP to conduct a fair review of the actions taken by IGP Themthing Ngashangva, IPS, during the unrest. According to the union, the senior police officer acted swiftly to maintain law and order and effectively mobilised emergency services and frontline personnel.
The organisation said that the demand submitted to the Governor for the officer’s suspension was “not appropriate,” arguing that his priority had been to prevent the situation from deteriorating.
While noting its concern for IDPs still affected by the ongoing conflict, the union stressed the need for continued protection and humanitarian support for vulnerable communities.

The Naga Women’s Union reiterated its commitment to peace, harmony and unity among all groups in the state.
