Kohima, Aug 29: The Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland, T.R. Zeliang, along with the Women Resource Development and Horticulture Minister Salhoutuonuo Kruse, conducted an inspection of the landslide area near Dziidza bridge on NH-29.

They emphasized the need for the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and contractors to adhere to the 72-hour deadline set by the state government for clearing the debris and reopening the road. During the visit, Zeliang expressed his dissatisfaction with the handling of the situation, criticizing the lack of prompt action by the implementing agency and contractors.

He highlighted that the issues caused by the natural calamity could have been managed more effectively if the NHIDCL and contractors had followed the instructions and suggestions provided during the monsoon preparedness meetings. The situation was reportedly worsened by misunderstandings between NHIDCL and the contractors, leading to a delay in the restoration work.

Zeliang urged the contractors to deploy the necessary machinery and manpower without making excuses, stressing the importance of timely road clearance for the public’s benefit. He also called for the use of modern technology and engineering solutions to better handle such recurring issues in Nagaland. Furthermore, he instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima to hold regular coordination meetings to ensure the smooth execution of the work. The NHIDCL assured that the road would be reopened by the afternoon of August 29.
