DIMAPUR, OCT 17: The Nagaland Gaonburas Federation (NGBF) said today that it appreciated the decision made by the Government of Nagaland to go ahead with the Registration of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN).
Welcoming the official notification of the state government to include the enumeration of four tribes of Nagaland—Kuki, Kachari, Garo, and Mikir—under the RIIN, the NGBF said this exercise will safeguard the interests of minority tribes and communities meeting the 1963 cut-off criteria.

The NGBF then stated that the RIIN exercise will determine individuals’ qualifications in accordance with the prescribed norms, ensuring their entitlement to the legally established provisions available to all bona fide citizens of Nagaland.
The NGBF then said, “However, as the RIIN process and related activities are being carried out, it is important to include those tribal individuals or communities already identified by the government through a special enumeration process based on their settlement in Nagaland before 1963”, adding, “This applies to their legal descendants who have permanently settled in Nagaland”.

The NGBF also said this inclusion will pave the way for moral and natural justice for the underprivileged and vulnerable minority community, thus providing them with fair recognition within the legal framework.
