Nagaland government holds consultative meeting on RIIN

The consultative meeting with “civil society organisations and tribal hohos” on Register for Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN) was held at the Chief Minister’s residential complex in Kohima on Friday.

Decision to form a Joint Consultative Committee on RIIN headed by the Nagaland Home Commissioner, Commissioner Nagaland as the Member Secretary and representatives from CNTC, ENPO and TOP as members in the state level was taken during the consultative meeting. This was informed by Advisor IT&C, Science & Technology, NER, Mmhonlumo Kikon, during a press briefing at the Secretariat Conference Hall, Kohima after the meeting.

The Advisor also informed that a subcommittee will also be formed at the district level with the deputy commissioners as convenors and representatives of the tribal hohos of the respective districts as members.

Addressing the media, Kikon stated that Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio gave the keynote address while speeches were delivered by the Leader of Opposition, TR Zeliang, Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton and Minister for Planning & Coordination, Neiba Kronu. A lot of issues, views and suggestions were addressed by various tribal organisations that attended the meeting, he added. He also stated that the meeting had long deliberations pertaining on the issue of RIIN and the outcome of the meeting was the formation of the Joint Consultative Committee with a view to have direct communication with all stakeholders. Kikon further added that RIIN was a sensitive issue and a lot of consultative meetings will be needed with all stakeholders before being implemented.
