Nagaland Governor Briefed on State’s Progress in Improving Major Health Indicators

KOHIMA: Nagaland has made notable progress in improving major health indicators. The Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) has declined significantly, while the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) and Total Fertility Rate (TFR) have also shown considerable improvement over the years, reflecting better maternal and child healthcare services in the state.

This was informed by the Health department of Nagaland on Friday when Governor of Nagaland, Nand Kishore Yadav, held a meeting with officials of the Department of Health & Family Welfare at Naga Bhavan Conference Hall, Lok Bhavan in Kohima.

The meeting was led by the Secretary of Health & Family Welfare, S. Tainiu. During the meeting, the Health department made a detailed power-point presentation highlighting Nagaland’s socio-demographic profile, health infrastructure, and key achievements in the health sector.

The Health department informed that Nagaland has made notable progress in improving major health indicators. The Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) has declined significantly, while the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) and Total Fertility Rate (TFR) have also shown considerable improvement over the years, reflecting better maternal and child healthcare services in the state.

The officials of the Health department also apprised the Governor of the performance under the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP), including improvements in case detection and treatment outcomes. However, certain areas such as timely disbursement under the Ni-Kshay Poshan Yojana and patient adoption were highlighted as areas requiring further attention.

The Governor appreciated the efforts of the Health department in strengthening healthcare delivery and improving key health indicators. He emphasized the need for sustained focus on effective implementation of health programmes, particularly in remote and rural areas, and encouraged the department to continue its efforts towards ensuring accessible and quality healthcare for all citizens.
