Nagaland State Government Clarifies on UG Self Declaration notice

The State Government of Nagaland issued a press statement through the Department of Information & Public Relations, Nagaland on clarification with regard to the directive order dated July 7, by the State Chief Secretary, Temjen Toy to all the Administrative Heads of Departments and all the Heads of Departments to obtaining information and self-declare if they have any family members or relatives in Underground Organizations with deadline set at August 7.

The State Government press statement said, in the interest of maintaining transparency, that on 14 Feb 2020, the office of the Honorable Governor, through the Commissioner and Secretary to Governor, had written to the Chief Secretary on the Honorable Governor’s desire to have a database on the matter.

The letter required every Government employee to make a self-declaration in a format which was enclosed along with the letters. The letter desired members of the Police Department to be segregated and furnished separately. The letter further directed the Home Commissioner to keep hard copies of the declaration and the soft copy to be sent to the Governor’s Office by 2nd April 2020.

A reminder letter was received by the Chief Secretary’s office from the Honorable Governor’s office on 24th June 2020.

The decision of the Government to issue the Office Memorandum dated 7thJuly, 2020 was made on the direction of the Honorable Governor which was deliberated by the state Cabinet in it’s meeting held on 3rd July, 2020.
