Nagaland: Violence breaks out between workers of LJP and NPP

Dimapur: At Thonoknyu headquarters in Noklak district in eastern Nagaland, violence between workers of LJP candidate, L Khumo and NPP candidate, M Benei occurred last night (Sunday night). Party workers of both the parties pelted stones causing injuries to workers of both the parties and many vehicles were damaged during the clashes, an official report said.

As such, deputy commissioner of Noklak, K. Mhathung Tsanglao, in the exercise of powers conferred under section 144 CrPC,1973, has prohibited the assembly of five or more persons in Thonoknyu headquarters and a perimeter of 200 meters around the town. Further, no political party will be permitted to hold rallies or meetings in the said location during the enforcement of the prohibitory order.

But the police, other security forces, magistrates on duty, fire and emergency services, educational and financial institutions, and departments/agencies assisting the district administration are exempted from the restriction.

This order came into effect immediately and will be applicable till further orders, the report added.
