Ngahui Villagers Conducts Clearance Work along NH-202 to Avoid Accidents

Due to non-maintenance of the lifeline along the 116 km stretch of Ukhrul to Jessami National Highway-202, Ngahui Village Authority and Ngahui Village Youth organization on Monday conducted roadside clearance work.

Around 43 members of the village came together lead by the village headman, Somi Kashomwoshi, and youth president, Ameison Hunphun Awungashi in clearing out around 3 km of the national highway along Ngahui village area.

Speaking to Ameison Hunphun Awungashi, he said the reason to conduct the roadside clearance was because of frequent reports of accidents in Ngahui area, as the village is situated right in the middle of NH-202. “So far we have witnessed two to three accidents,” Ameison said.

He also pointed out, “Since Border Road Task Force (BRTF) is no longer looking after NH-202, the concerned authority, the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL), has not taken any interest.”

A village elder expressed gratitude for the exemplary work done as NH-202 touches several villages, adding that the roadside clearance will also prompt other villagers to take up similar work where the authority have completely forgotten to do its job.
