UKHRUL: Manipur Police, in a statement has said the attack on Friday at Roudei (TM Kasom) village was allegedly carried out by “armed Kuki militants” positioned along the route from the Patleijang hill area. During the incident, an FCI truck driver, identified as Nitish Kumar (57) of Hooghly district, West Bengal, sustained critical gunshot injuries and died on the spot. A police personnel attached to Litan Police Station also suffered a bullet injury.
Manipur Police reported that a combined security force comprising personnel from the Manipur Police, CRPF, BSF and RAF came under a “heavy attack” while escorting a convoy of stranded FCI trucks and LPG/IOCL tankers from Yaingangpokpi towards Ukhrul.
The police further stated that security forces have launched search operations and area domination exercises in the area to apprehend those responsible for the attack.

In another development, a section of National Highway-202, the lifeline of Imphal to Ukhrul road, near Shangkai Kuki village was found dug up on Saturday, allegedly using a JCB excavator.
Local sources alleged that the road was deliberately excavated by Kuki villagers to disrupt vehicular movement along the highway. The extent of the damage and its impact on traffic movement could not be independently verified at the time of filing this report.

It may be mentioned that villagers of TM Kasom (Roudei) alleged that armed Kuki militants from nearby Patleijang attacked mourners during a funeral service on Friday, May 29, 2026 morning.
According to local accounts, the funeral was being held for an elderly villager who had died from a kidney-related illness when gunfire erupted near the village cemetery. Villagers alleged that the firing originated from the direction of Patleijang hamlet, a claim that broadly aligns with the Manipur Police statement that armed Kuki militants had attacked a security-escorted convoy from positions in the Patleijang hill area.
