NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Inaugurates Histopathology Lab at NHAK, Nagaland; MoU Signed to Upgrade Nursing Education

Kohima: Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog, Suman Kumar Bery inaugurated the histopathology lab at Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima (NHAK), under the initiative of Investment & Development Authority Nagaland (IDAN) and the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland, today.

At the inaugural program Managing Director NHAK, Dr. Sendimeren Aonok said that it was a historic moment for the state under the banner-ship of Prime Minister and CSR projects. He also said that it is the first histopathology unit that has been installed under the CSR program, which was sponsored by Numaligarh Refinery Limited.

Joint Secretary, IDAN, Reny Wilfred also said it was a monumental event for NHAK as well as for Nagaland in having the histopathology lab, which is first of its kind in Kohima.

He also expressed his gratitude to everyone who has contributed to the project. Wilfred, also mentioned that a database was made of possible project all across the state with support of district administration, NGOs department and brought in partners like ‘Doctors For You’ in helping the state with manpower, expertise, capacity building and training as part of implementation and complete process of follow up and deliverance to the common people.

During the inaugural program, a significant step was taken towards enhancing nursing education and healthcare services in Nagaland. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between five key stakeholders: Doctors For You, the Principal Director of the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland, the Joint Secretary of the Investment & Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), the Additional Secretary of the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland, and the Nursing School at District Hospital Mokokchung.

The main key highlight of the MoU was the primary focus on the upgradation of GNM Nursing School into B.Sc Nursing College in Mokokchung, Nagaland, as a model institute for Nursing Education, Strengthening and upgrading existing GNM schools to accommodate up to 60 seats in the B.Sc Nursing College at Mokokchung, operating under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, Development and provision of education, training, and research facilities of the highest order for various courses of nursing education at all levels.

Conducting research, with a focus on operational, applied, and other studies related to nursing sciences and manpower development, and assisting the state government in planning, establishing, managing, and assessing nursing education programs and related activities, including the introduction of new academic courses based on the needs of Nagaland state, within a self-sustainable financial model.
