Shillong, July 21: The North East Students Organization (NESO) today demanded stringent punishment against the culprits involved in parading two women naked in violence-hit Manipur.

“The NESO demands that all culprits involved in the senseless act should be arrested and stringent punishment should be meted out to them,” NESO chairman Samuel B Jyrwa said in a statement here.

He said the NESO is appalled and shocked with disbelief at the recent video circulated on social media where two women were forcibly stripped and made to parade naked in full public view in Manipur.

“Such acts are outrageous, barbaric and inhumane which are unacceptable in a civilized society. The fact that these women have to endure the above ordeal and disgrace in the most despicable manner is enough to send shivers down the spine of every right-thinking individual,” Jyrwa said.

He further added that the NESO observed that in every conflict or riot, women and children are the most vulnerable and frequently preyed upon. Atrocities against helpless women and children including abusing their modesty and dignity at any time and even at war should never be condoned, but should be condemned by one and all.

Meanwhile, the NESO also urged the different communities of Manipur and in the entire North East to maintain peace and brotherhood so as to further strengthen the age-old relationship that had been developed over the generations.
